The ending of season three takes a series of dark turns. Korra and Chief Unalaq journey into a dangerous maelstrom and find a source of great spiritual power. The beginnings of the romantic relationship between Korra and Asami are present this season as well, with the two being paired off for more storylines than they had been in previous seasons. Korra struggles to find a deeper connection with the Spirit World as she and the gang attend a Southern Water Tribe festival. Season three has perhaps the best villain in LOK, with the introduction of Zaheer and the Red Lotus organization. Korra also becomes the first avatar to Metalbend, a skill she learns while some time in Sao Fu, which is essentially a metalbending sanctuary. Lin gets some backstory during this season, and audiences see why she is so angry and isn't close to her famous family.
